An Open Letter to the New York Mets

Hey guys! Awesome season you're having! It's the 20th anniversary of the last time you took the Series (I have a few friends who are Red Sox fans, so we won't mention you-know-who), and we're all very excited for October to come.

My Grandmother, who passed away earlier this summer, was a die-hard Mets fan. Even after the strike, when it took my dad and my uncle a few years to get back into the MLB, Grandma was right there watching every game she could. Now, if you've ever spent any time on Long Island and you like Jeopardy!, you know that it's on channel 55 at 6:00, then it's on at 7:00 on channel 7. Jeopardy! was my Grandma's favorite game show - she loved Jeopardy! almost as much as she loved the Mets. She passed a little after 7:00 PM, and someone said that she was probably "up there" wondering who'd won Jeopardy!. My dad said no, she'd watched the 6:00 showing, so she could watch the Met game. Even on the day she died, she had to make sure she could watch her Mets. You guys lost that night, but it's okay - we all did.

So, in closing, I have but one request - can you please take it home again this year? For my Grandma?

Thanks,
Kathleenie Beenie
