Dropping the H-bomb

I was in absolute shock when I had to drop the H-bomb on Friday night. No, nothing like what we did to the Japanese. I dropped the husband bomb.

Background: I went to karaoke a couple of months ago and sang a song from Les Mis. This guy had been fumbling his way through Phantom songs all night, so I decided that since I would talk the talk ("I can do better than that"), I'd better get my arse up there and walk the walk.

He came up to me afterward, completely and totally gushing. He asked me if I'd seen the show, I told him that I had, he told me that I sounded just like the girl from the show. Yay!

Fast forward to Friday night - I went again, I sang again (Bette Midler, in case anyone's interested), he came over again. He said "you're the girl that sang Luh Miz last time, right?" (misspelling to show his pronunciation) I told him that I was. He told me again what a great job I did on it and asked me again if I'd seen the show. I told him - again - that yes, I'd seen it, then made the mistake of mentioning that I'd seen it on Broadway. That lead us into the fact that I'm from NY, and then he asked me if I knew anyone who was killed on 9/11!!!

WTF?!?! Who asks a stranger in a bar if they knew anyone who died in a terrorist attack?! Anyway...

So, he's doing all the body language, eye contact, etc. (and it must have been really obvious, because I'm the last to figure out if someone's interested - geez, my senior year of high school, my entire first period music theory class knew my friend Adam was interested in me a full month before I did). So, he asked me if it was hard being so far from my family. The time was right. I said:

"Well yeah, but my husband and I try to get back every other Christmas, and sometimes in between if we can."

I swear, his eyes went immediately to my hand, then down at the floor. The conversation didn't go much longer after that. And he was all nervous and giggly as he walked away, and hit his head on a hanging light fixture in the process.

Poor guy.

But DUDE!!! How cool is that - I had to drop the H-bomb!

"In the know" or just a lush?

SPd from Erica:

Bourbon
Congratulations! You're 123 proof, with specific scores in beer (80) , wine (133), and liquor (69).
Screw all that namby-pamby chick stuff, you're going straight for the bottle and a shot glass! It'll take more than a few shots of Wild Turkey or 99 Bananas before you start seeing pink elephants. You know how to handle your alcohol, and yourself at parties.

My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 48% on proof

You scored higher than 92% on beer index

You scored higher than 97% on wine index

You scored higher than 87% on liquor index

*sniff* They grow up so fast...

...especially when you're not there. My younger cousins on my dad's side are a lot younger than me - I was 14 when A was born and 15 when M was born. A was always my baby. Actually, they were both my babies, but I always got more snuggles from A. M wasn't quite the snuggle bug, but is usually the first to give me a big whopping hug when I visit now. When A was a toddler, he would get his bottle from the fridge, take my hand and walk me over to the couch - I would sit down and he would climb up and snuggle and go to sleep on me.

Well, I ran into A on line tonight, and he gave me the link to his Picturetrail page.

Holy cats, do I need updated pics of those boys. Granted, they are 14 and 13 now, and last time I was home they were both taller than me (or pretty darn close to it - I can't remember), but I was in NO WAY prepared for what I saw. He's let his hair grow out - I love it. Sandy blond, wavy/curly and beautiful. He was wearing a button-up oxford shirt with a navy blue Polo (Ralph Lauren, not the sport) sweater. He is starting to look like... well, notsomuch my baby anymore. I won't say "man," seeing as he's 14 and all, but... wow.

You have to understand, there is a framed picture and A and me on my entertainment center - it's one of my favorite pictures, but in this picture, he's 10 months old and I'm just barely 15. Other than that, I have pics of them from when we were in Ireland, when A was 20 months old and M was just over 6 months old. I have a picture of M with our grandma on the day of his First Communion. I have a couple of pictures of them from when Bryan and I visited my family for Christmas 2003, but nothing fabulous.

That's it. Those are the pictures I have of my babies. So, I guess it's kind of understandable that I would still think of them as little kids since those are the pictures I see on a daily basis. But now... dey all growed up. *sniff*

I'm gonna go cry now. :(

And let me tell you, if I had known a guy in junior high or high school who looked like A, I would have had SUCH a crush on him - he's a CUTIE!!!

I'm late!!!

No, not in an "I'm pregnant" sort of way. I'm late for Reader Poll Monday! SPd from Sherri.

1. What's your favorite dessert? I don't know if I really have one particular favorite.

2. Have you ever had a professional massage? No, and I really need one. I have a friend who does it for a living, but is it completely wrong of me that I'd rather have a complete stranger touch that much of my body than a friend? Would it make a difference to you?

3. Turtlenecks: love 'em or help, I'm being strangled? I like turtlenecks, but not mock turtlenecks. Right now, my favorite shirt is my short-sleeved rib knit turtleneck. I may have mentioned a while back that I hate having the same shirt in many colors? Not this one. I have this shirt in 6 colors, and I wouldn't necessarily be against getting more. It looks good on me!

4. How many pillows are on your bed? Five.

5. What word best describes your smile? Warm?

6. Do you see yourself moving to another city or state within the next 5 years? I hope so. I like it here, but a move would be indicative of a better job.

7. What kind of calendar do you use most? Wall. There's one above my desk at work and I probably look at it 5+ times a day, for job scheduling purposes. I miss my Outlook calendar - we use Outlook Express at work, and I miss being able to set little pop-up reminders.

8. Do you look at the keyboard when you type? Most of the time, yes.

9. What's your favorite joke? "A man walks into a bar... ouch."

10. What would be your ideal 2-week vacation? All-expense-paid Meditteranean cruise.

I'm not nerdy, but boy, you should meet my friends!

I am nerdier than 20% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!

Remember, while I am only 20% nerd and 16% geek, I have two friends who scored over 80% on The Geek Test. But I did get a 43 on the Wonderlic. And no, I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

An epiphany

I have come to the realization that I am a solitary shopper.

When I go shopping, be it grocery (because that's the kind of shopping I do most often) or otherwise, I dread running into people I know. I am perfectly content to roam the store by myself. If someone I know works at a store I'm visiting, and I'm not unsure as to whether or not they're working, I'll deliberately avoid their department. It's not personal, I just want to be left alone.

Part of me wonders if I picked up this habit in college. Back then, the Genovese (which has since been bought out by Eckerd) by my grandma's house was open 24/7. If I couldn't sleep, I'd drive there at 3:00 in the morning and just wander the aisles.

It's my time to be by myself. I don't have to talk to anyone, save for th ebrief interaction with the cashier. I don't mind shopping with Bryan, or my mom, or my girlfriends on occasion, but by and large, I just want to be alone.
