Home

I can sum up my trip to NY in five words: It's good to be home.

Not that I don't enjoy seeing my family, but this trip was particularly draining, emotionally speaking.

With the exception of my best friend from college, whose wedding I was in last year (which was my previous trip to NY - August 2004), it was all family family family mom mom mom (Renee, I left you a message and you didn't call me back, so I figured you were busy). Dad is a grumpyass, mom is unhappy, both the remaining kitty and grandma looked old and frail, and I'm hoping I make it to next Christmas without having to go out again (i.e., hoping there's no funeral before then - grandma really doesn't look good).

There were some good points though:

  • Mom and I had a very nice day together at Atlantis
  • I ate some very yummy food (and brought some home with me)
  • I saw my "little" cousins (who are not so little anymore) and their mom and dad
  • I didn't fight with my sister
  • I had a lot of snuggle time with Midnight, the aforementioned kitty, who I'm also not sure will make it another year.

My aunt and uncle (the ones with the "little" cousins) said they might take a road trip out here in the summer - I'm not holding my breath since they said the same thing two years ago, but the hope is always nice. And I got to spend a nice evening with Dawn and Ted (the aforementioned BF from college and her husband), who are hoping to come visit for our annual Labor Day camping trip - they've been planning to for a while, but she was teaching, which made it nearly impossible for them to be able to camp with us.

And, it only took 7+ years, but I truly feel that Wisconsin is now my home. Or... let me rephrase that - wherever Bryan is is my home. I felt well and truly out of place waiting for my flight at LGA, but the biggest sense of relief washed over me when I stepped into the terminal at MKE - walking through the terminal to meet Bryan, I was calm, content and truly felt "aaaahhhh, I'm home."

You left a message for someone, but it wasn't me! :-)

I just checked with Dad & there were no messages...

Sorry to miss ya...

For some reason, I thought you were coming down this weekend...

Oh well! :(

Well shoot - I even looked the number up, too (rather than just dialing from memory - and I must have a good memory, because I was right). Maybe I misdialed? Meh! :(
