The taxes are done, man!!!
[/"Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead" voice]

This is officially the LATEST I have ever filed. This is probably due to the fact that we owed a large amount this year. I had previously thought that this was the first time I ever owed, but upon logging in to my online tax-preparation account, I remembered that we owed last year. The amount was laughable compared to this year. Bryan and I can't eat dinner at Applebee's for what we owed last year, which I'm guessing is what made it so forgettable.

However...

THIS year we we could have gone on vacation for what we owed. We had been freaking about how it was going to get paid, and then I had a bright idea - we were in the middle of consolidating a couple of loans for a much lower interest rate, so why not add what we owe the feds to the new loan and just be done with it? Maybe not such a hot idea in the long run, but it definitely works for us right now - hey, when you're paycheck-to-paycheck, you gotta do whatcha gotta do, right? Anyway, so between consolidating the two loans (one of which is being shortened by 18 months) and adding the tax money, our payments are now only $3.00 more a month than they were before, our taxes are taken care of, one of our debts gets paid off a year and a half earlier, and we still have the state refund coming to us, which will catch us up on other bills.

AND THERE'S AN ADDED BONUS!!! The way my credit union's automatic payment system works when you have direct deposit (like me), is that rather than taking your payment out of your account once a month, it deducts half of your monthly payment when you get paid every other week. It's pretty nifty, I like it. Well, they started the loan repayment date far enough out that I can skip paying the loan out of my next check, so there's a couple hundred dollars in available funds I didn't think I'd have. Very reassurring.

Loans consolidated, taxes paid, catching up, plus a small amount of breathing room. All in all, a decent start to my weekend. If only I didn't have to get up so early to drop off the car insurance payment, LOL.
