Dropping the H-bomb

I was in absolute shock when I had to drop the H-bomb on Friday night. No, nothing like what we did to the Japanese. I dropped the husband bomb.

Background: I went to karaoke a couple of months ago and sang a song from Les Mis. This guy had been fumbling his way through Phantom songs all night, so I decided that since I would talk the talk ("I can do better than that"), I'd better get my arse up there and walk the walk.

He came up to me afterward, completely and totally gushing. He asked me if I'd seen the show, I told him that I had, he told me that I sounded just like the girl from the show. Yay!

Fast forward to Friday night - I went again, I sang again (Bette Midler, in case anyone's interested), he came over again. He said "you're the girl that sang Luh Miz last time, right?" (misspelling to show his pronunciation) I told him that I was. He told me again what a great job I did on it and asked me again if I'd seen the show. I told him - again - that yes, I'd seen it, then made the mistake of mentioning that I'd seen it on Broadway. That lead us into the fact that I'm from NY, and then he asked me if I knew anyone who was killed on 9/11!!!

WTF?!?! Who asks a stranger in a bar if they knew anyone who died in a terrorist attack?! Anyway...

So, he's doing all the body language, eye contact, etc. (and it must have been really obvious, because I'm the last to figure out if someone's interested - geez, my senior year of high school, my entire first period music theory class knew my friend Adam was interested in me a full month before I did). So, he asked me if it was hard being so far from my family. The time was right. I said:

"Well yeah, but my husband and I try to get back every other Christmas, and sometimes in between if we can."

I swear, his eyes went immediately to my hand, then down at the floor. The conversation didn't go much longer after that. And he was all nervous and giggly as he walked away, and hit his head on a hanging light fixture in the process.

Poor guy.

But DUDE!!! How cool is that - I had to drop the H-bomb!

I love when that happens. :) Unfortunately, it doesn't happen very often anymore.
