All your cardstock are belong to us

Or, at least that's what a customer told me today, though not in so many words.

She dropped off hard copy of a postcard she had designed - it was 4-up and she said she needed 700 cards. On the back of the one of the hard copies (it was double-sided, so she had two sheets of paper), she had written "700 total, after cut." I made up her 700 cards (remember, 4-up on a sheet, so only 175 sheets of cardstock were necessary).

My salesguy delivered them this morning, and about 15 minutes later she called. "How many cards are in here?" I told her that there were 700 cards. "700 cards or 700 total sheets?" I told her that it was 175 sheets, cut into 700 total cards, which is what she had requested. "Nonono hon, I need 700 sheets!"

Well, then why the heck didn't you tell me that yesterday? Why did you write "700 total, after cut" on your hard copy?! Argh! So I went into the paper storage area, pulled 525 more sheets of cardstock (in several colors, because we don't keep much of each color of cardstock in stock), and went to work.

Oh, and did I mention that the only way to put cardstock through our copier is through the bypass tray? You're supposed to be able to put it in a paper tray, but it always jams. And did I also mention that the bypass tray only holds about 20 sheets? And that cardstock won't go through without jamming when the copier's on double-sided mode? I had to sit there and feed 525 sheets of cardstock through, twenty sheets at a time, twice.

Fun.

You know, I have a nice title and all, but when I'm the only one in the office, I'm not only the manager, but the production staff as well. And with a salesguy who's gone much of the day, and only a part timer for help, I'm the only one in the office up to half the day sometimes. Almost the whole day if my part-timer has the day off (which she did today). So, nice title, but I don't even get to have fun with it by being a lazy beeyotch. ;)
