And I cannot say "how rude!" without thinking of Michelle from Full House.
Anyway...
A woman on a message board I frequent had a visit from a door-to-door salesman recently, and when she decided she'd rather NOT buy a $60 bottle of mystery cleaner, he ASSumed it was because she'd need to get "permission" from her husband first and actually had the balls to say to her: "you dont need to check up with your husband, do you? You let him decide how to spend money?"
WTF?!?! What an ass!!!
Now, I know there are some households where any little purchase the woman wants to make has to be run by the husband, and if that's the way you want to live your life that's all well and good. But to ASSume that that's the way someone's relationship works? And to actually say it OUT LOUD?!?! What kind of person speculates on someone's marital situation because they don't want to buy an overpriced mixture of alcohol, water and scent?
And just for reference, yes, I have said the words "I need to discuss it with my husband." But you know what? He's said the words "I need to discuss it with my wife." Because we consider it the respectful thing to do. We don't give each other "permission," we discuss.
